WHAT IS THE FRIENDS OF LAFOURCHE DRUG COURT FOUNDATION?
The Friends of Lafourche Drug Court Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization developed to support the Lafourche Parish Drug Treatment Court program and operate as a separate funding entity.  Its primary purpose is to provide supplementary funding for the development of the Drug Court program.  Presently, the Friends of Lafourche Drug Court Foundation is primarily funding specialized assessment and treatment for clients.
WHAT IS A DRUG COURT?
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS
WHY IS THE FOUNDATION NECESSARY?
Primary funding for the Drug Court come from the Louisiana Supreme Court.  This provides for standard treatment and day-to-day operations.  Some of our clients, especially women, have been traumatized as children or adults.  The Friends Foundation funds assessment and treatment that is beyond the scope of the Drug Court substance abuse treatment program.

The foundation also funds reinforcement for positive behavior.  In addition to praise and social incentives, counselors give tangible awards that are especially effective to reinforce the participants' new life without the "rewards" of drug use and street life.  We want them to see a world that rewards positive behaviors and to develop positive "addictions"(work, family, hobbies, etc...) to replace their negative addictions (drug use and street life).  Once positive behaviors are established, it's best to replace tangible rewards with social rewards.  Ultimately, we learn to reward ourselves - behaviors become internalized and we come to think of them as "the way I am".

The foundation is able to fund any legitimate costs that supports effective operation of the Drug Court.  For example, it funds the graduation ceremony for those who complete the program.
FUNDRAISING
Because of it's federal status as a charitable foundation, the Friends Foundation can accept donations and provide the donor a receipt for tax purposes.  Any private individual, organization, or business may make financial contributions, which are made payable to the "Friends of Lafourche Drug Court Foundation".  Contributions are usually tax deductable. Information about contributions may be obtained by calling (985)446-1970.

The Friends Foundation regularly conducts fundraising activities for the benefit of the Drug Court.  In the past few years, this has been an event we call "An Evening of Relaxation".  It is a quiet evening of dinner featuring a guest speaker or performer. Write or call to get on our invitation list or to make a direct donation:
